The work may include clinical interview, review of relevant records and psychometric measures where appropriate to the referral question and within the clinician’s competence.
Structured report
The report sets out the information considered, psychological findings, limitations and opinions relevant to the questions asked. Supplementary work is agreed separately where required.

Who can request a court or legal psychological report?
Initial enquiries may come from solicitors, other authorised professionals or individuals. Where a formal legal report is required, the appropriate instruction, questions, records and recipient requirements must be clarified before the case is accepted.
What information is normally needed?
A clear referral question or letter of instruction, relevant case documents and records, the required deadline, the intended recipient and any specific procedural requirements.
Does the psychologist act for one side?
The psychological opinion must remain independent. The role is to address the psychological questions within the instruction and evidence, not to advocate for a desired legal outcome.
